Facilities
At Humboldt, students go beyond the books and gain real-world experience using on-and off-campus facilities for studio work and research.
Sculpture Lab
- Metal fabrication and bronze casting foundry utilizing ceramic shell, Oxy/acetylene torches, blacksmithing forge and tools, and sand blasting cabinet.
- Welding area with 4 MIG welders, 2 TIG welders, 1 stick welder and 3 plasma cutters.
- Large mixed media/classroom area.
- Table saw, 3 band saws, sheet metal roller, worm drive bender, 2 drill presses, bench grinders, compressor and pneumatic tools, hand tools, sewing machines.
- Wax working are with electric wax pots, gas shell de-waxers.
- Mold making in plaster, urethane and silicone rubbers as well as fiber glass reinforced water-based resin, body casting supplies and equipment.
- Textile fabrication and experimental processes.
Ceramics Lab
- 8,500 square foot facility.
- Two seperate kiln rooms with 14 electric and 4 gas kilns.
- Large glaze room with spray booth.
- Plaster mold making area.
- Clay mixing and storage area.
- Classroom for slide lectures.
- Throwing and hand building areas.
- An outdoor kiln area for raku and soda firings.
- Separate studio space for BFA students.
Printmaking Lab
- Three etching and three lithography presses.
- A new to us Vandercook No. 03. Two letterpress proof presses to be used to print relief blocks and for special letterpress events.
- Fully-equipped space with tools and equipment for relief, intaglio and screen printing processes.
- Enclosed courtyard for studio work and a nice outdoor space to have lunch.
Photo Lab
Our facilities include a chemical lab for black and white printing and a lighting studio. Our labs are open for extended hours for student use in order to provide abundant time for focused study and practice for the serious photographic artist. Students also have access to a variety of photography equipment, including: digital, 35mm and large format cameras, portable lighting kits, and a professionally equipped lighting studio.
Jewelry & Small Metals Lab
- The jewelry studio is well equipped for the exploration of historical and contemporary metalsmithing techniques including hand fabrication, casting, and digital fabrication.
- The studio is a clean, safe, and creative environment that fosters community, critical thinking, and problem solving.
- Divided into bench workstations and large equipment areas the studio provides access to a variety of processes including chasing and repousse, forming, raising, forging, cuttlebone, lost wax, and resin casting, enameling, etching, tool making, and basic finishing and polishing processes.
- Large fabrication equipment includes the hydraulic press, shears, forming hammers and stakes, buffing machine, metal and wood bandsaws, sand and bead blasters, drill presses, bending break, belt sanders, kilns, and rolling mills.
- Casting equipment includes burnout furnaces, centrifugal casting cabinet, and vacuum casting, as well as equipment for cuttlebone, broom, and water casting.
- Digital fabrication equipment includes three computers, table-top CNC router, and 3D printer.
- Individual benches are equipped with flex shafts, torches, and hand tools and each student is assigned a large complement of additional tools for their use during the semester.

Painting Area
- Large painting area with easels and tables.
- Studio facilities are open and available from 7:00 am until midnight, seven days a week.
Martin Wong Studio
- Open studio space for class gatherings, critiques and studio production.
Digital Lab
- Large classroom area with 24 Mac workstations.
- Small and large format scanners.
- Laser printers.
- Projector screen and whiteboard.
- Vinyl Cutter production studio with 24” cutter and assorted tools and materials.
Film Studio
- Large classroom for teaching and student productions
- Professional grade video and audio projection system

Film Teaching Computer Lab
- 26 Mac workstations
- Adobe Suite and DaVinci Resolve

- Audio booths for foley, voice over recording, and other post production audio recording

Student Access Gallery
The Student Access Gallery exists to help art students at Humboldt learn how real-world galleries function and display the work of our talented student artists on campus. We provide hands-on experience preparing artwork and paperwork, and working to give Humboldt's artists oppurtunities to exhibit, all in all, giving students ways to gain skills and experience for success in their careers. The Gallery also serves as an impromptu gathering space when no exhibition is installed.
Goudi'ni Native American Arts Gallery
- Located on campus in the Behavioral & Social Science building.
- Highlights the work of contemporary and traditional Native American artists
Reese Bullen Gallery
- Located within the Art building.
- Houses the University's permanent collection of art.
- Sponsors exhibitions of artwork by professional artists related to our areas of instruction.
