Carly Slade is an award-winning ceramic artist from Edmonton, AB, Canada that has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She has had solo shows across the USA including at Greenwich House Pottery in NYC, Baltimore Clayworks (MD), The Clay Studio (PA), Talon Gallery (OR). Recently, Slade was awarded “Best in Show” at the Fahrenheit 2024 exhibition at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (CA). Slade was awarded the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Emerging Artist Fellowship in 2022 as well as NCECA’s Helene Zucker Seeman Emerging Artist Award. Slade has participated in Artist Residencies in Canada and the USA. Her work has been published in the book Humor in Craft (Brigitte Martin) and featured several times in Ceramics Monthly Magazine.

Carly’s work is influenced by her blue-collar roots and plagued by a concern for the precarious nature of the working class. Prior to entering academia, Slade worked in the trades working on gas services, carpentry and as co-owner of a precast GFRC concrete company. Using a mix of materials (most often including clay, embroidery, and building supplies), Slade creates dioramas of real places in an unreal perspective.

She received her MFA from San Jose State University and her BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts. Slade is currently an Assistant Professor and Area Head at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, in Arcata, CA, USA.
